“Ministry of Health hereby inform the public that Gambia registered one new laboratory confirmed case of COVID-19. A 71-year old Gambian, of URR origin (Numuyel Village), who recently returned from France, Arrived in The Gambia on the 17th March 2020 at 13:31hrs by TUI Arkefly (TFL458) and travelled to Numuyel 59 passengers were onboard the flight, a statement issued by Gambia’s Health Ministry read on Tuesday.
According to Health Ministry, the patient later started manifesting symptoms of Coronavirus.
This is the third COVID-19 case recorded in The Gambia. One of the diagnosed patients died last week.
“Manifestation of symptoms began on the 20th March 2020. First reported to the OPD of Basse District Hospital with symptoms such as abdominal and chest pain in the early hours of the 21st of March 2020. Was escorted to the hospital by 2 escorts who brought him on a motorcycle. He initially resisted sample collection. Sample was collected on the 21st March after the intervention of the Police Intervention Unit. Sample sent to MRCG at Fajara for testing on the 22nd March. Positive test result received on Monday 23rd March,” the statement stated.
