An Officer of The Gambia Armed Forces Bahoreh Jaiteh has left the army on the pretext of helping his “vulnerable wife and family” in the United Kingdom, a confidential letter written to the Defense Headquarters Command by Jaiteh has revealed. Jaiteh’s leave application letter was dated on March 17th, 2020.
The subject of Jaiteh’s letter was entitled: “APPLICATION FOR ONE YEAR LEAVE OF ABSENCE WITHOUT SALARY.”
Jaiteh then went on to state: “Sir, I humbly wish to apply for the subject matter. The reason that prompted this application is the need to support my family in the United Kingdom (UK), I have been separated with my first wife and two daughters for seven years now due to economic and political reasons.”
Jaiteh then added: “On the application of my wife, I Have been granted one year six months leave to join her and the kids. This prompted me to seek and obtained permission to proceed on annual leave to UK. On my arrival in UK, I have found them in a condition which requires my support. They are really struggling to make ends meet. This makes them vulnerable to abuse as females in this tempting world.”
According Jaiteh, in view of the above-mentioned reasons, he had no other alternative than taking a break from the army.
“In view of the above and in spite of my strong passion for the job, I have to take this difficult decision to seek a break and support them for at least a year or so. Therefore, your kind consideration and further request for Personnel Management Office to implement the approved application is highly solicited,” Jaiteh wrote.
Commenting on the bottom of Jaiteh’s letter, GAF’s Personnel and Human Resources said Jaiteh’s application was “genuine” and he had forwarded it to the CDS for consideration.
It doesn’t look like Jaiteh has received any formal approval from GAF for his leave request without pay. Sources said Jaiteh wants to pursue further education while in the UK. He is going to pay for his own tuition fee, sources have revealed.
