MC Cham jrn, has rebuffed claims going round suggesting that businessman Hamidou Jah, AKA Jah oil, had allegedly given his party leader Mama Kandeh, two Mercedes Benzes, which were seized from the exiled Gambian dictator Yahya Jammeh and were sold during an auction sale. Cham described the claims as false and unfounded. “Mama Kandeh has not received two cars from Hamidou Jah. Kandeh has been consistent in his denunciation of the government. He is on record for saying that the Jammeh assets were sold without due process,” Cham remarked.
The rebuttal followed claims that out of the three former Jawara Mercedes Benzes Jah had bought from the Janneh Commission auction sale, two of of the Benzes were given to Kandeh. Jah had also bought Jammeh’s bus.
“There is no one, who can tell you that he is covertly sponsoring Kandeh, so that Kandeh, would extend a similar gesture to him, when he is voted into office. No one is sponsoring Kandeh. How can Mama Kandeh use Jammeh’s cars? I was shocked when heard it on your radio. Mama is not that type of a leader, who would sellout to interest groups or persons. He practice what he preaches,” MC Cham added.
A Freedom radio listener in Banjul has promised to send us the pictures of the two Mercedes Benzes that Hamidou Jah had allegedly given to Mama Kandeh.
“I will send you the pictures. I know what I am telling you,” the listener said.
Another caller from the United Kingdom said he was also told that Jah had given two of the Mercedes Benzes he bought from the Janneh Commission auction sale to Mama Kandeh. He added that he (the caller) had wanted to buy one of the Benzes but was told Jah had already bought the cars.
“When I asked for the Benzes, I was told that it had been bought by Hamidou Jah. I also tried to buy the Wrangler truck that I later learned was sold to Nyang Njie. I heard that Nyang bought the truck from a third party. I had offered to pay over D800,000 dalasis, for that truck, but they wouldn’t sell it to me. I was told that it has been bought by someone. I later realized that some people had bribed the auctioneers to buy some of the auctioned properties at a cheap price. I refused to bribe anyone,” said the UK caller.
But MC Cham, said there is no iota of truth in the said claims. Cham said there are folks, who are allegedly out to politically disparage his leader.
“When they were selling Jammeh’s seized tractors, Mama Kandeh was invited to buy the tractors, but he told them that he was not interested in purchasing tractors that have been seized from poor farmers. Mama told them that the farmers should be allowed to use the tractors for farming purposes. I think they are out to mislead the public. This is a propaganda going on. Mama is the government’s biggest threat today. That is why they are making up stories just to soil his image. Many people are joining the GDC. They are threatened by Kandeh’s popularity. He is an honest leader,” Cham said.
