The outspoken Gambian economist and activist Nyang Njie, AKA Daddy Njie, says he came under attack while on a trip to Banjul on Saturday. He was attacked by two men, one of them, he said, is the son of the late Banjul Mayor Lai Bah. The incident happened in Banjul. Njie spoke to us in a brief phone conversation. We earlier contacted him to shed light on reports circulating on social media, suggesting that he was attacked in Banjul by a hostile mob.
The incident followed Njie’s criticism of Banjulians. Njie recently criticized Banjulians in a Facebook live show for what he called their role in enabling corrupt and bad governments. He even branded some of them “as sons” who were born” on a Saturday.
His remarks never went down well with Banjul born natives. His comments had attracted a huge reaction within and outside Banjul.
“Pa Nderry, nothing happened to me, I am here going about my business. What happened in Banjul.. They have seen what happened in Banjul. Two people came to attack me, and they have seen what happened there. So, it is not a situation of Waa Banjul against Daddy Njie. That’s is not the case, but it is something that I don’t want waste my time on. I have better things to do with my time than to worry about people, who have nothing to do,” Mr. Nyang Njie remarked.
Mr. Njie said one his attackers is the son of the late Banjul Mayor Lai Bah. He said the attack incident happened, when the son of the late Mayor, emerged from an “attaya” vou to confront him.
Njie, who was on the phone with this author said, he wants to believe that the son of the late Mayor, attacked him, because of his past comments on his late Dad, in the past Banjul Mayoral election. Njie had lamented about the decayed Banjul infrastructure. He was with the view that Lai Bai shouldn’t be reelected into office. Check Njie’s Youtube channel published below.
