A 40 years old woman in Galleh Manda in CRR south has taken her own life, after throwing herself into well in the provincial settlement, Freedom Newspaper can report. Sources familiar with the incident said the deceased is married and has 4 kids who are all grown-ups.

The lady reportedly committed suicide after realizing that her husband has allegedly impregnated his divorced wife’s daughter. “Her husband had a daughter in his first marriage. He later divorced his wife, and married the lady, who killed herself. His daughter shared room with his wife. The daughter later became pregnant. She gave birth seven months ago. There was no info as to who impregnated the lady. She (the lady who committed suicide) called the husband’s daughter and asked her who impregnated her. She told her that she wouldn’t be able to stand it when she discloses the information to her. That she might kill herself upon knowing who impregnated her,” said a native of the village.

The devastated mum couldn’t hold herself upon realizing that the young lady was impregnated by her own Dad. She then resorted to killing herself.

“She told the husband that she was going to kill herself. The husband tried to refrain her, but without success. She jumped into the well and kill herself. It is ninety meters well. She killed herself in the evening, when it was almost prayers time,” This medium was reliably informed.

“The lady’s husband collapsed, and he was evacuated by ambulance.  He is currently with the Bansang police,” our source added.

Freedom can confirm that the dead body has been returned to the family for burial by the police, today, following medical examination at the Bansang Hospital.

Meanwhile, detectives of the Gambia Police Force are investigating the motives behind the suicide.

The police spokesman Superintendent Lamin Njie was contacted for comment, and he said he was going to contact the regional police command for details on the story. He was yet to get back to us, at the time of going to press.
