The Leader of the United Democratic Party Ousainou Darboe has filed a criminal complaint against Ms. Fatou Sumareh, a supporter of President Barrow’s National People’s Party (NPP) after claiming that the lady insulted him, Freedom Newspaper can report. Ms. Sumareh was invited by the Kairaba police, questioned, and later released. She was never charged.
Complainant Ousainou Darboe, who had earlier phoned the police to file a complaint against Fatou Sumareh, was also asked to report to the Kairaba police to give his statement.
Ms. Sumareh was alleged to have accused Darboe of impregnating one of his wives outside wedlock. She told an NPP social media forum after her encounter with the police that she is a victim of UDP insults and harassment. She claimed that she has been routinely insulted in different UDP Whatsapp forums.
“Darboe’s supporters had accused Dembo Byforce of impregnating a lady in Bakau. I also told them that their leader Ousainou Darboe too has impregnated one of his wives outside wedlock. Darboe has nothing to do, but to report me to the police. He has taken a Gambian lady to the police,” she said.
Ms. Sumareh said she was never cautioned or charged by the police. She has branded Darboe as a dictator in the making.
“I was treated nicely by the police. I ate lunch with them. I was later asked to leave. I was never arrested, not charged, or cautioned. I did not see Darboe at the station,” she said.
Dodou Sano, a Presidential adviser, was said to have visited the police station yesterday to show solidarity with Ms. Sumareh. The station was stormed by NPP supporters.
Reports have it that Darboe was infuriated following Ms. Sumareh’s claims that he allegedly impregnated one of his wives outside wedlock.
The alleged impregnated lady was married to a former Gambian teacher, cum footballer, before marrying to The Gambian politician.
Angered by the lady’s allegations, Darboe, resorted to filing a police complaint.
Ms. Sumareh is the younger sister of Mansa Sumareh, President Barrow’s former driver. Mansa is a UDP supporter.
Both Fatou Sumareh and Mansa used to be in same party, but following the Darboe/Barrow fallout, she decided to join the NPP.
Mansa Sumareh was implicated in the Diplomatic Passport scandal. He has a pending criminal case before the courts.
