STAFF IN MODEL SENIOR SECONDARY SCHOOL IN CONUNDRUM AS TO WHO THEIR PRINCIPAL IS

There is total confusion among the staff of the aforesaid school as to who their head is for the 2020/21 academic year. The two-senior staff in question here are Mr. Dibba, who is the current head, and Mr. Darboe, who has been sent by the Regional Education Directorate Two (RED2) since October to replace Mr. Dibba when his contract expires in December 2020.

Mr. Dibba is a retired civil servant who contested for a parliamentary seat in one of the districts in North Bank Region and lost. He has been appointed as the head of Model Senior Secondary School after the former head, Mr Isaac, was ordered to hand over the school to RED2. Mr. Dibba has served the government as an educationist up to his retirement and was later appointed on contract which has also expired in December 2020. RED2 knowing that Mr. Dibba’s six years contract is due to expire in December posted Mr. Darboe to be his understudy and take over as head as soon as the man leaves. Apparently, Mr. Dibba is in denial of leaving the school after the end of his contract which RED2 is aware and in support of. The director of RED2, failed to do his duty by serving the current head a letter to announce the end of his contract to him. The Minister of Basic and Secondary Education, Claudia Cole is backing Mr. Dibba since she has an interest over the ownership of the school

Those in the region whose contracts expired towards the end of 2020 have all been sent home except Mr. Dibba, who is getting support from the leadership of RED2 and education in general. The office of the PMO is probably not aware of this. Mr. Dibba is getting a return favour from Claudia Cole, for defending and pushing her interest in having full ownership of the school from Mr. Isaac.

Mr. Darboe, Mr. Dibba’s designated replacer is currently in the school as the most senior and active civil servant without an office. The system is presently frustrating him and the teaching staff.

The school is in ownership crisis as to who, between Claudia Cole and Mr. Isaac, owns the school. Mr. Isaac is claiming for the school to be returned to him and case is still in court yet to be decided on. Dibba is there for the minister and the minister doesn’t want to fail him at this time.
