Gambian Elected Executive Director of World Writers Association


Gambian Modou Lamin Age-Almusaf Sowe (ML Sowe), founder of the Young Writers Association of The Gambia (YWAG), and former SG of the Writers Association of The Gambia, has been elected Executive Director of the World Writers Association. ML is from Brikama and attended Kabafita Lower and Upper Basic School, and proceeded to Masroor Senior Secondary School. Sowe has survived fraud and sexual harassment allegations. He dropped out of school three times. Failed 7 times in his life. Went to exile at 26. His parents divorced when he was only 3. Nearly eat poisoned food twice. Convinced for 7 years to become an Ahmadiyya but he refused. Almost blind at 4th grade. Wrote his first book at 14. First young Gambian writer to have his book approved by MoBSE. Lost his mother at 28. Won the Young Gambian Writer Award at 29. Suffered depression and bullying. Have never learned how to write. Does not hold a Master’s degree or PhD. Have been successfully published in the USA and also published in an anthology book (TWAWEZA) published by the Afrian Writers Development Trust.
