Gambia’s Presidential aspirants have been asked to submit their nomination papers to the Independent Electoral Commission with effect from October 30th to November 5th, 2021, a statement issued by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) has revealed. The IEC says forthcoming Presidential elections would be held on December 4th, 2021.
“The public is hereby informed that the IEC, acting under section 47 of the constitution and 42(1) of the Elections Act will receive nomination of candidates for the said election of President of The Gambia from 30th October 2021 to 5th November 2021 between the hours of 8 o’clock in the fore noon and 4 o’clock in the afternoon at the IEC Headquarters Bertil Harding Highway,” said the IEC.
The Commission also says the political campaign would commence from Tuesday November 9th, 2021, to Thursday December 2nd, 2021.
The elections would be presided over by Alieu Mamar Njie, the IEC Chairman, the statement stated.
“Nomindation papers can be collected from the IEC Headquarters from 30th September 2021,” the IEC said.
Gambia’s Presidential elections are held every five years.
Barrow is seeking for a second term mandate. His main challenger is the main opposition United Democratic Party, under the leadership of Ousainou Darboe.
