NANDO/EMKAY: WHERE IS THE EXPIRED MAYONNAISE??
WHERE IS THE EXPIRED MAYONNAISE?
That is the million-dollar question from Freedomnewspaper’s esteemed editor, the indefatigable eminent doyen of Gambian journalism, Pa Nderry Mbai.
NOT MEANT FOR GAMBIA!
You say: “Contrary to what is being told to the public, the mayonnaise in the container as widely reported was not meant to be distributed in The Gambia”.
We say: The word “contrary” in your statement is superfluous! Pa Nderry Mbai reported that it was NOT “meant to be distributed in The Gambia”.
REJECTED BY SENEGAL!
You say: “ … while it was enroute to Senegal, it was intercepted by the Senegalese Customswhere it was discovered that the expiry date was near”.
We ask: Why did YOU not “discover that the expiry date was near” before you dispatched the mayonnaise to Senegal?
We ask: Why was it NOT “intercepted” by Gambian Customs when it returned to The Gambia? As you say, YOU “alerted” the authorities. Why were they not doing their job – as the Senegalese Customs were?
SO YOU BROUGHT IT BACK TO THE GAMBIA!
You say: “Upon discovery, the container was confiscated”.
We ask: Eh?! “Confiscated” by who? YOU “confiscated” your own expired mayonnaise – and then YOU “alerted, The Gambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) and the Gambia Police Force respectively”?
“Discovery” of what? That the mayonnaise was expired? But you discovered that in Senegal! Why bring it back to The Gambia to make another “discovery”?
We emphatically state: This is the whole point of Freedomnewspapers and WhatsOnGambia’s story: WHILE THE SENEGALESE AUTHORITIES ACTED QUICKLY TO SAFEGUARD THE HEALTH OF THEIR PEOPLE, THE GAMBIAN AUTHORITIES SLEPT ON THE JOB!
WHAT IS THE “EXPIRY DATE”?
You say: “the expiry date was near”!!! What is the expiry date??? In Roman numerical, e.g. 01.01.2021. Why is the “expiry date” a big secret?
“NEVER DISTRUBUTED TO THE PUBLIC”!!
You say: “Please note, that the mayonnaise was NEVER distributed to the public. There is no evidence that the alleged mayonnaise was distributed in the Gambia”.
We say: That is your assertion and we do not have to accept it at face value! Infact, when you say “no evidence” it makes us more suspicious!
We ask: What “evidence” is there that the alleged mayonnaise was NOT distributed in The Gambia? In this case it is not difficult to prove the negative: all you need to do is give evidence of what happened to the mayonnaise (why “alleged” mayonnaise?).
WHERE IS THE MAYONAISSE?
As Pa Nderry Mbai, my esteemed friend asks:
“Where is the expired mayonnaise that was seized by the Food Safety Department? Can Emkay tell us what happened to the expired mayonnaise? Has it been destroyed?”
CEASE AND DESIST!
Stop the THREAT about “defamation being a criminal offence”! Firstly, the reporting has to be false before it becomes defamatory (2013 Defamation Act). Truth is a defence. Secondly, “Public Interest” is a defence too: and you have already accepted that your mayonnaise was not fit for distribution for public consumption. So no more empty threats”
Stop your lecture about journalism. Pa Nderry Mbai has been in the business longer than you have been in the business of important mayonnaise! Please concentrate on improving what it is that you should be doing well – importing safe mayonnaise.
PLEASE DON’T FORGET TO ANSWER THE MILLION DOLLAR QUESTION!
Where is the expired mayonnaise? Please provide “evidence” of what happened to it.
