Gambian Ambassador to India presents Letters of Credence to The President of India H.E Ram Nath Kovind
BANJUL, September 23, 2021: The High Commissioner of the Republic of The Gambia to the Republic of India, His Excellency Mustapha Jawara, on Wednesday September 22, 2021 presented his Letters of Credence to the President of India, His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind. The presentation ceremony was conducted virtually, and High Commissioner Jawara was hosted at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi for the event.
At the credential presentation ceremony, High Commissioner Jawara had conveyed fraternal greetings from the President of the Republic of The Gambia, His Excellency, Adama Barrow to the Indian President, His Excellency Ram Nath Kovind, the Government and people of India. He went on to convey President Adama Barrow’s appreciation to the Government of India for its immense support to The Gambia’s infrastructural development, energy and capacity building requirements in particular the Lines of Credit and grants that have been offered to The Gambia over the years, and the training of Permanent Secretaries, Foreign Service Officers, Students amongst others.
High Commissioner Jawara hailed India’s success of their Green Revolution in the 1960s, which has now made them food self-sufficient and solicited their support in initiating a similar concept to help The Gambia achieve the same success in food self-sufficiency. He also called for more Foreign Direct Investments in Agriculture, Tourism, Energy, ICT etc. His Excellency the High Commissioner further reiterated his strong commitment to strengthen the excellent bilateral ties between The Gambia and India.
For his part, President Kovind congratulated High Commissioner Jawara on his appointment as The Gambia’s High Commissioner to India, and assured him of his full support during his tenure in India. The Indian President extended greetings to President Barrow and remembered fondly of his visit to The Gambia in July 2019.
President Kovind hailed the friendly relations between The Gambia and India, and underlined the importance that India attaches to its bilateral relations with The Gambia. He acknowledged India’s support to The Gambia with Lines of Credit, training of officials that included Permanent Secretaries, Foreign Service Officers and Gambian students which were all done in the spirit of South-South cooperation.
It could be recalled that India played a crucial role in building the human resource base of The Gambia by offering scholarships for Gambians to study in India. The Gambia and India’s bilateral relations have always been cordial with cooperation in the Non-Aligned Movement and United Nations.
