A European national was found dead today in the outskirt of the Sanyang beach, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. The circumstances surrounding the demise of the middle aged white Caucasian is unknown. The victim’s body was later recovered and transported to the hospital for postmortem to establish his cause of death.

Sanyang is situated in Kombo South District, in the West Coast Region of The Gambia. It is predominantly a fishing coastal village. It is also a tourist resort site—with fine sandy beaches.

Curious villagers, and bystanders stormed the scene of the incident, where a middle aged white national was found dead. The deceased’s name and country of origin could not be immediately established by the Freedom Newspaper.

One of the onlookers at the scene of the incident earlier today contacted the Freedom Newspaper to explain what he saw.

“ I got a clear news for you.  I found a white man dead in Sanyang, just few meters away from the beach. Very soon you will hear it.  The dead body was found lying down. Everyone was shocked,” said the onlooker.

Police Spokesman Conta was contacted for comment and he confirmed the incident. The police spokesman said he was briefed about the incident, but he asked to be given time to get the full detail of the story.

The Freedom Newspaper will contact Mr. Conta on Thursday for an update on the Sanyang incident.

The Gambia has of recent witnessed a dramatic increase on crime rate. Petty stealing, pick pocketing, home invasion, and robbery, have been on the increase. The police and other security agencies have been working vigorously to curb crime ahead of the 2017/2018 tourism year.
