A staunch supporter of Gambia’s United Democratic Party (UDP) led Coalition government and its leader Ousainou Darboe, one Njie Manneh, a Gambian based in Germany, and is currently visiting The Gambia, has confessed in a Whatsapp audio message of shooting a young man in the leg at the vicinity of Buffer Zone, the Freedom Newspaper can authoritatively report. Mr. Manneh is a native of Saruja, in the Central River Region of The Gambia. He informed the UDP Whatsapp Forum that he has shot a young man, whom he claimed allegedly tried to physically attack him at Buffer Zone, while he was riding in his car.

“Greetings to the forum members.  I am Njie Manneh. This is a reliable news that I am very sure of.  There is no element of lies in it. It is a true story. This is a message for all Gambians from Koina to Kartong. The message should be extended to hospitals across the nation. If anyone comes to any of our hospitals and health facilities with gunshot wound; shot in the leg, please call the nearest police station. I am the one who shot him. I, Njie Manneh, was crossing around Buffer Zone, at night, and a young man; leaned on my car and he tried to attack me. There were a lot of people in the area. I wanted to spray him with a “tear gas” but after a second thought I changed my mind. I didn’t want to hurt a lot of people.  I resorted to shooting him with a pistol in the leg. He escaped from me,” Njie Manneh said in his native Mandinka local dialect.

It is uncommon for law breakers to go public with their crimes, but in the new Gambia, everything is possible under the sun. The word DEMOCRACY is under threat in the Gambia, as the likes of Njie Manneh, can openly brag about shooting people and yet went public with his crime. He also has the audacity to instruct hospital outpatient doctors and nurses to turn in his victim to the nearest police if seen on arrival.

“Anyone, who has access to my audio message from Koina to Kartong, please share it. At the hospital level, if you happen to see anyone with a gunshot wound in the leg, please know that I, Njie Manneh, is the shooter; apprehend the young man and hand him over to the police. He wanted to attack me, Njie Manneh, while I was around the Buffer Zone area, while I was in my car. But with God….; I wanted to spray him with “tear gas” but there were a lot of people around; where I wanted to shoot him on his body; I couldn’t because there were a lot of people around,” Manneh, who calls Foreign Minister Ousainou Darboe “ my grandfather” stated.

NJIE MANNEH WITH FOREIGN MINISTER OUSAINOU DARBOE

The last time we checked, Njie Manneh has not been licensed to carry a pistol in the Gambia. Pistols are not among the licensed ammunitions that private citizens in the Gambia are allowed to carry. Members of the security forces are licensed to carry pistol provided that they are cleared by their superiors. Private citizens are only allowed to carry traditional locally made handguns, and licenses are issued rarely. It is mostly issued to local hunters.

His confession message was condemned by some UDP supporters, especially Alhagie Nyabally, AKA Mandela. Mr. Nyabally resides in Spain. He said Manneh’s conduct will no doubt soil the reputation of the UDP, a party he describes as “peaceful and democratic.” He said Mr. Manneh should be investigated—if need be brought to book for breaking the law. Nyabally also said it is not safe for the likes of Manneh to be around president Barrow since he is bragging about shooting people in the streets.

Njie Manneh, known for his arrogance and indiscipline resorted to attacking Alhagie Nyabally in a counter Whatsapp message posted on the UDP forum. He said Alhagie Nyabally should be disowned by the UDP because his own brother Fansu Nyabally, was a member of dictator Yahya Jammeh’s assassin team, the jungulars.

Mr. Manneh said Alhagie Nyabally and his entire family members should have been killed by president Barrow’s government since his brother Fansu Nybally was part of dictator Jammeh’s murder machine. He said thanks to president Barrow’s soft heart, the Nyabally family are living freely in the Gambia.

He praised CDS Masaneh Kinteh, a man, he once chastised and insulted online. He thanked Kinteh and Turo Jawaneh for keeping Gambians safe. He vowed to name and shame folks criticizing Kinteh, Jawaneh, and Barrow’s security detail.

“ I will reveal their mothers’ boyfriends if anyone criticizes Masaneh, Turo, and the people guarding the president,” he said.

Mr. Njie Manneh was adamant in demanding for his victim to be turned in to the police. Hear him: “If the young man is seen in any of the hospitals with a gunshot wound in the leg, please know that it is me, Njie Manneh, who shot him. Let it be known to all and sundry that I am the shooter. I am not the type of person to be attacked. I relied on God and his prophet Muhammed.  I, Njie Manneh, I always thank God and his prophet.  On that note, I want to thank the forum members. I am Njie Manneh.”

When contacted by phone on Friday, Njie Manneh’s phone was off. He was indisposed for comment.

The UDP leadership could not be reached for comment during the weekend.

We will air Mr. Manneh’s shooting confession audio during the Sunday prime time Leral show.

Below is the transcribed Whatsapp Audio message Mr. Njie Manneh shared on the UDP Forum.
